Our Story

Our story begins around the middle of the last century, when Celeste and Leone Casarotto decided to join forces and put their love for the grapevine, and their passion and dedication in farming it, to good use by setting up a small family vineyard.

Their main strength was what was passed down to them by Luigi, their father who before them had dedicated his life to winemaking, above all his pride, but they also owed a lot to the fertile land the vines were planted in and that they themselves had been born in. The land inherited from their father was spread across a number of different parts in the townland of Montecchia di Crosara, well known as grape-growing areas.

Here we are talking about no ordinary grape, but the Garganega that forms the basis of the Soave and Recioto di Soave the Casarotto vineyard has long been renowned for and have been a constant source of satisfaction and excitement. In the 1950s, when the Casarotto vineyard was in its infancy, the two brothers produced a limited amount of wine for sale by the litre, offering their wares mainly to families and hostelries in and around Verona, Vicenza and Treviso.

Over time, they managed to purchase various pieces of land in the Val d’Alpone and near the town of San Bonifacio, allowing them to broaden their horizons and diversify their production by adding red-wine grapes such as Cabernet and Merlot, Rondinella and Corvina. They aimed to meet their customers’ needs and began to concentrate on producing quality wines to sell bottled. The last vineyard –chronologically, not in terms of importance – is located in the Lessinia area (the village of San Giovanni Ilarione, to be precise), where Durello wine is born.

At Casarotto, we still also grow, pick and sell dark cherries directly from our fields in Montecchia di Crosara, where every year on the second Sunday in July a Cherry Festival is held and our cellar is open all day.
