A glass of...health

“A moderate intake of alcohol, in the form of wine consumed at mealtimes, helps to protect the heart and contributes to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.”

This piece of news, by now proved and approved, was broadcast officially for the first time in 1991 by an American television programme, leading to supermarkets running out of all the supplies of wine they had on their shelves.

A moderate intake of wine in a healthy individual can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by over 25%, as wine can facilitate the cleaning of the arteries by reducing the amounts of excess bad cholesterol that deposit on the artery walls, and also stimulate urine excretion.

Some mineral elements found in wine also help to protect the blood vessels and the heart, particularly magnesium, which acts as an anti-coagulant therefore helping to prevent thromboses, and potassium, which can make the heart more toned and elastic.

As we say in Italy, WITH WINE, THERE’S NEVER BAD BLOOD! Moreover, it has been observed in a number of studies at global level that wine can be an effective elixir for long life, as it stimulates and aids conservation of our bodily functions over time.

However, perhaps its most important feature is that it confers the psychological benefits produced by a sense of wellbeing and harmony in the older groups of the population!
